Facelift (Rhytidectomy)

What is a facelift?

Facelift surgery can "set back the clock," improving the most visible signs of aging by removing excess fat, tightening underlying muscles, and redraping the skin of your face and neck.

Am I a good candidate for facelift plastic surgery?

The best candidates for facelifts are men or women whose bone structure is strong and well-defined, whose skin has some elasticity but has begun to sag.

What will be discussed during my consultation for a facelift?

In your initial consultation the plastic surgeon will evaluate your face, including the skin and underlying bone, and discuss your goals for surgery. He will explain the techniques and anesthesia he will use, and the risks and costs involved.

What is the recovery period for facelift surgery?

Most patients are back at work about two weeks after facelift surgery.

Can other plastic surgery procedures of the face be done at the same time?

We can perform procedures such as neck liposuction, eyelid surgery, lip augmentation and forehead lift at the same time depending upon the patient’s concerns and what the surgeon feels would complete the overall best result for patients to achieve their goals.

Where will I have the facelift surgery performed?

Depending on the extent of your procedure, it may be performed: in our office; at Kennedy Memorial Hospital in Washington Township, NJ; at Inspira Medical Center in Woodbury, New Jersey; or at the Gloucester County Surgery Center in Mullica Hill, NJ.

What type of anesthesia is used for facelift surgery?

Unless your procedure is performed in our office under local anesthesia, we prefer to use monitored anesthesia with intravenous sedation (sometimes referred to as "twilight" anesthesia). On occasion, due to medical reasons or personal preference, the facelift procedure may be performed under general anesthesia.

How long does facelift surgery take?

Facelift surgery usually takes 2-3 hours. This time can vary if you're having more than one plastic surgery procedure done.
